The Regular Residency is Cemeti – Institute for Art and Society’s annual residency programme, taking place over a three-month period from March to May. Each residency hosts one or two Indonesian artists alongside one international artist. The participation of international residents is made possible through partnerships with funding organisations that support the residency, including travel, accommodation, and other programme-related expenses.

 

The residency is designed as a space for artists to develop their practice through research, dialogue, and engagement with local contexts. Throughout the programme, residents are accompanied by the Cemeti team through regular discussion sessions that provide opportunities to reflect on ideas, questions, artistic processes, and experiences emerging during the residency.

 

In addition to pursuing independent research and artistic practice, residents are encouraged to share their work and ongoing processes through public programmes such as presentations, discussions, film screenings, workshops, reading sessions, communal meals, or other formats that are relevant to their practice. These activities create opportunities for meaningful exchanges with artists, researchers, local communities, and wider audiences.

 

The residency concludes with a final presentation, which may take the form of an exhibition, performance, site-specific project, community-based collaboration, publication, or any other format that best reflects the artist’s research and practice developed during the residency.
