Open Studio: Rega Ayundya Putri

“Laboratorium Suara Masa Lalu”

8 April – 2 May 2026

Introduction

A lecturer who dreamed of becoming a comic artist since childhood, Rega is a Bandung-based artist who processes her love of drawing through installations, animations, fictional narratives, and even sounds. For her, creating art is the most enjoyable way to process her curiosity and anxiety about the future. When not traveling for residencies or exhibitions, Rega can be found in Bojongkoneng, Bandung, busy feeding her cats.

Continuing his ongoing research, in this open studio, Rega will explore how a city’s history shapes its relationship with music—searching for and reconstructing traces of sounds that exist but are not recorded in history.

*Open Studio is one of the programs of Cemeti Institute for Art and Society that focuses on artistic experimentation and the development of discourse around works currently being developed by artists. This program represents a new form of utilizing Cemeti’s Stockroom space, held regularly and open to artists, either by invitation or through an open proposal.

Biography

Rega Ayundya Putri believes that art should be driven by fun and a sense of childlike curiosity. Having once dreamed of becoming a comic artist, her practice evolves around speculative storytelling, animation, installation, sound, and performance. Fueled by her future anxieties, Rega constructs alternate realities (often with discarded materials), blurring the line between fact and fiction while questioning the absurdities of the modern world.
Rega holds a BFA and MFA in Fine Art from the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and has participated in several international residencies, including: Delfina Foundation in London, UK (2026); Horanggasy Creative Studio in Gwangju, South Korea (2024); Fukuoka Asian Art Museum’s 22nd Artist-in-Residence Program, in Fukuoka, Japan (2024); and Koganecho International Artist Network in Yokohama, Japan (2023). Her practice has also been featured in publications like Ballpoint Art (Sandu Publishing, Hong Kong).
Currently based in Bandung, Indonesia, Rega balances her time between teaching at local art universities, developing new animations, and taking care of her cats.
